Week of February 10-14: Lockdown Drill
** We have been working on our science unit
that focuses on states of matter: solids,
liquids, gas. Today we predicted whether or
not certain items would float or sink. A few
days ago they used the same objects to test
magnetism. We have been having a great time
and learning a ton!
** Our math focus has been on missing
addends and how to determine what number is
missing. Example: Mrs. Aldinger has some
books. Then she gets 3 more. Now she has
12 books. How many books did she get? The
strategies we have been using to solve these
problems are a part, part whole box, number
line, and counting on.
** Our main focus in reading has been working
on decoding, sight word recognition and
working on building some fluency. In order to
be a fluent reader, a childs decoding skills
and word recognition skills must be strong.
** Eager Readers: We have introduced the
students to small chapter books that are at
beginning reader level and the kids are
LOVING them! They have their nose stuck in
a book all the time! We love seeing that.
** First Grade fees for second semester
are $11.93. These fees cover some fun &
educational opportunities. Your support of
student learning is very appreciated.
** STUFFED ANIMAL DAY: The class has
earned enough stars to have a stuffed
animal day on Tuesday, January 28. They
are welcome to bring ONE stuffed animal
that they can share their school day with.
