Pre-service Assessment Continued (5)
What in your family, background, personal sacrifice or
engagement determined how you would rank the
options?
I am a student who was originally born in
India, so I find it really necessary to help
people one at a time. I feel if you are able to
make a connection with individuals, then you
will slowly but surely change the world. In my
background, I have had a lot of people who
have helped me out quite a lot along the way.
Pre-Service Assessment Continued (6)
I have had tutors, teachers and friends that have all helped
make my school work a lot more manageable then if I had
to do it alone. That is why I chose tutoring a migrant worker
as my number one option. I suppose my reasoning for
choosing the second option was because I feel as though
more people need to take notice about the importance of
preserving the environment. My family owns a Subway, and
they are very careful to recycle as much as they possibly
can throughout the day, so I think some of that rubbed off
on me. As for the rest of my choices, I just chose what I felt
would have the best impact if it was something that
everyone participated in. It was difficult to rank all of the
choices from top to bottom, because all of them struck me
as very important.

Pre-Service Assessment Continued (7)
2. Which items relate to advocacy? Direct Service? Charity?
Or personal choices?
I feel as though every option that would actually
take time out of your day in order to perform would
fall under the direct service category. Even if they
dont seem like theyre direct service at first glance,
you are still doing your part to help. For example,
visiting other houses of worship besides your own
doesnt directly create an impact on the
community, but it does help spread the idea of
religious equality over time. I would consider all of
the assistance.

Post-service Assessment (10)
1. Think back to your attitude for your service learning project. Did your
experience change or confirm your attitude? Describe your experiences as
you answer this question.
I had a good attitude towards any and all volunteering
before I even took this class. I enjoy volunteering, and I
think it serves a great purpose, so my experience did not
change any attitude I have about volunteering before.
Most of my experience with the children at the Boys and
Girls Club was just interacting with children, and helping
out with activities. I enjoyed working through all of the
different activities that were in place for the children.

Post-service Assessment Continued
(11)
How is your service organization important to the people it serves? What
changes would you suggest to the Board of Directors? What was your role in
the agencies delivery of services?
The Boys and Girls Club provides a lot of structure
for children. It is important that young children get
to experience a positive environment, so they are
able to grow into good people when theyre older.
Although there seemed to be too many children
during times, I would not suggest anything in order
to improve the Boys and Girls club. I think it is a
really great organization.

Post-service Assessment Continued
(12)
What was the best experience during the service learning project? What was the worst
experience? How would you approach this project or a different project next time?
I got to interact with some children that I actually know
outside of the organization. It was cool to see them
interacting within the Boys and Girls Club. The worst part
of the experience was that there was too much noise, and
sometimes the kids got a little too crazy. There are about
200 students who go to the Boys and Girls Club, so
sometimes it can be too much. If I had volunteered
earlier in the semester, I would have spent more than just
10 hours, because I had a really great time!
