Modeling
Model and demonstrate
procedures and thought
processes that help students
see how to perform a
technique or task that is being
taught.
Overhead Projector
A projector capable of
projecting enlarged images of
written or pictorial material
onto a screen or wall from a
transparency placed
horizontally below the
projector and lighted from
underneath. Students can see
how items are manipulated and
used for lesson purposes.

Hands-On Manipulation
To move, arrange, operate, or
control by the hands or by
mechanical means, especially in a
skillful manner. When students
touch and maneuver contents
such as realia, the higher the
chances are that they will adapt
to long term memory.

Realia
Objects, as real money,
utensils, etc., used by a
teacher in the classroom to
illustrate aspects of daily life.
This is particularly good for
English Language Learners so
that they can link language and
vocabulary.

Pictures
A visual representation or
image painted, drawn,
photographed, or otherwise
rendered on a flat surface. Can
also be viewed in three
dimensional format.

Demonstration
An illustration or
explanation, of a theory or
product, by exemplification
or practical application to
make understanding
comprehensible.

Multimedia
The combined use of media,
such as movies, music, lighting,
CD-ROMs, and the Internet,
for education or entertainment.


Timelines
A representation or exhibit of
key events within a particular
historical period, often consisting
of illustrative visual material
accompanied by written
commentary, arranged
chronologically.

Maps
A representation, usually on a
plane surface, of a region of
the earth or heavens. Global
representation that indicates
landforms and bodies of
water.
Graphs
A diagram that exhibits a
relationship, often functional,
between two sets of numbers
as a set of points having
coordinates determined by
the relationship.
