Cooperative Learning
Groups: is an
instructional approach
that encourages
students to work
together in groups. It
emphasizes the
importance of
cooperation rather than
competition in solving
academic problems and
completing assignments.
Identifying Similarities
and Differences: helps
students understand
more complex
problems by analyzing
them in a simpler way.
Use Venn diagrams or
charts to compare and
classify items. Students
can compare, classify,
create metaphors and
analogies.
Advance Organizers:
commonly used to help
set the stage for
instruction cognitive
strategy. Examples:
KWL Chart, Graphic
organizers, and Higher
level questions.
Homework and
Practice: All homework
assignments should be
purposefully designed
to help students reach
mastery of a specific
learning objective.
Develop policy and
forms for parent/
teacher communication
regarding expectations
and consequences.
Cues and Questions:
Cues involve hints
about what students are
about to experience.
Questions can do the
same thing, like asking
students questions
before they perform an
activity in order to
make prior knowledge
connections.
Nonlinguistic
Representation/Graphic
Organizers: Two
primary ways of
learning: (1) linguistic
(by reading or hearing
lectures) or (2)
nonlinguistic (visual
imagery, auditory
experiences,
kinesthetic or whole-
body mode.
