1. Bacteria


Description:
~ Single-celled
~ No true nucleus
~ Can be aerobic (needs oxygen) or anaerobic (does not need oxygen)
Specific Diseases Cause by Pathogens:
~ anthrax
~ cholera
~ diphtheria
~ gonorrhea
~ leprosy
~ tetanus
~ tuberculosis
2. Virus

Description:
~ Require intracellular parasite (cant survive outside the hosts cell)
~ On the borderline between living and nonliving matter
~ Can have varied shapes:helical (like a coiled spring),icosahedrons (with 20 triangular sides)
or a very complex shape
Specific Diseases Caused by Pathogens:
~ AIDS
~ chickenpox
~ common cold
~ dengue fever
~ rabies










3. Fungi


Description:
~ Thrive on dead or decaying matter
~ Multicellular (like molds)
~ Cause diseases of the skin,mucous membrane, and lungs
Specific Diseases Caused by Pathogens:

~ Tinea or ringworm


4. Protozoa

Description:
~ Parasitic or free living
~ Has a variety of shapes and sizes
~ Various types: amoeba ,cilitates,flagellates or sporozoans found most or moist soil

Specific Diseases Caused by Pathogens:
~ Malaria
~ Amoebic dysentery
5. Parasitic Worms

Description:
~ Largest among the pathogens
~ Can either be flatworms or roundworms
~ Examples of roundworms are pinworms and hookworm
Specific Diseases Caused by Pathogens:
~ Ascariasis
~ Elephantiasis
~ Enterobiasis
