WHAT IS SMARTPHONE ?

A smartphone is a device that lets you make telephone calls, but also adds in
features that, in the past, you would have found only on a personal digital
assistant or a computer--such as the ability to send and receive e-mail and edit
Office documents.

In the beginning, there were cell phones and personal digital assistants (or
PDAs). Cell phones were used for making calls--and not much else--while PDAs,
like the Palm Pilot, were used as personal, portable organizers. A PDA could
store your contact info and a to-do list, and could sync with your computer.

Eventually, PDAs gained wireless connectivity and were able to send and
receive e-mail. Cell phones, meanwhile, gained messaging capabilities, too.
PDAs then added cellular phone features, while cell phones added more PDA-
like (and even computer-like) features. The result was the smartphone.

GENERAL IDEA OF MOBILE O.S.
BLACKBERRY
BlackBerry OS is a proprietary mobile operating system,
developed by Research In Motion (RIM) for its BlackBerry line
of smartphone handheld devices. The operating system
provides multitasking and supports specialized input devices
that have been adopted by RIM for use in its handhelds,
particularly the trackwheel, trackball and most recently, the
trackpad and touchscreen.
The BlackBerry platform is perhaps best known for its native
support for corporate email, through MIDP 1.0,which allows
complete wireless activation and synchronization
with Microsoft Exchange.

ANDROID

Android is a Linux-based operating system designed for
mobile devices such as smartphones and table computers
utilizing ARM processors.
It is developed by the Open Handset Alliance, led by Google.
Google releases the Android code as open-source, under
the Apache License.
Android Inc was founded in Palo Alto of California, U.S. by
Andy Rubin, Rich miner, Nick sears and Chris White in 2003.

Google acquired Android Inc. on August 17, 2005, making
Android Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of Google.

On November 5, 2007, the Open Handset Alliance,
a consortium of several companies which
include Google, HTC, Intel, LG, Motorola,Samsung
Electronics and Texas Instruments unveiled itself. The goal of
the Open Handset Alliance is to develop open standards for
mobile devices.

The goal of the Android Open Source Project is to create a
successful real-world product that improves the mobile
experience for end users.
WINDOWS O.S.
The Windows Phone operating system is the newest of
the four main smartphone systems.
It is characterized by its live tile interface called "Metro"
which is a radical departure from all previous concepts.
There are no icons, folders, or extensive menus.
The live tiles are active, and tiles pinned to the start
screen will update you with information making opening
certain programs such as whats the weather forecast or
do I have any new Facebook messages, for basic
examples.
IPHONE O.S.

The iPhone is a line of smartphones designed and
marketed by Apple Inc. The first iPhone was unveiled
by Steve Jobs, then CEO of Apple, on January 9,
2007,and released on June 29, 2007. The most recent
iPhone, the 5th generation iPhone 4S, was released in
October 2011.

An iPhone can function as a video camera, a camera phone,
a portable media player, and an Internet client with email
and web browsing capabilities, can send texts and receive visual
voicemail, and has both Wi-Fi and cellular data connectivity.
The user interface is built around the device's multi-touch screen,
including a virtual keyboard rather than a physical one.
Third-party as well as Apple application software is available
from the App Store.
There are five generations of iPhone models, each accompanied
by one of the five major releases of iOS.The iPhone 3GS added a
compass, faster processor and higher resolution camera,
including video recording .
The iPhone 4 has a rear-facing camera and a front facing
camera, for FaceTime video calling and for use in other apps
like Skype.

COMPARISON BETWEEN SMARTPHONE

The pros:
Very customizable.
Open source operating system is easily changed, hacked,
manipulated, and molded to fit whatever functionality you had
in mind. Found on all platforms for all prices depending on
what hardware and software version we are interested in.
Second largest app store.
The battery is usually replaceable.

The cons:
Open source operating system is great for developers but not
good for security.
Many reports of potential security threats at this time. On that
note updates are being released very frequently to fix holes in
the system
The Android market is being checked regularly for potential
threats.

The pros and cons:
The first wide spread PDA device.
Useful for checking email.
Blackberry uses their own servers so they are very
secure.
Due to being the most secure they are excellent for
business where extra frills are not necessary or
contractually not allowed.

However when they have a server problem it is wide
spread and can take days to fix large areas of service.
Trying to keep up with iPhone and Android.
Web browsing is ok at best.
Limited apps.
User interface is love/hate.
The pros:
The first smartphone that was actually smart. Always turns
on and always works.
The screen has the most pixel density. Hardware is made
for Apple to Apple specs and cannot be changed.
Has the largest app store.
Most phone accessories are made for iPhone ranging from
alarm clock docking stations and credit card scanners to
stun guns. No other phone has the accessory capability that
the iPhone has due to manufacturer interest.
Closed platform.
This creates a very secure and stable environment
The cons:
It's not available on all carriers but this is expanding.
The battery is not replaceable which is why all the iPhone
users you know have it plugged in all the time as the battery
degrades.
Same operating experience on all iPhones.

The pros:
Mix of closed and open source. All apps must be created with
the end user in mind in terms of functionality. Programs are
arranged in alphabetical order.
Must be fully booted in 30 seconds or less from the time you
press the power button or it will not meet Windows Phone spec.
Battery is replaceable on most handsets. Same operating
experience on all Windows Phones.
Partnership with Nokia
Live tiles do not open to icons but actually display information.
Smallest but fastest growing app store.

The cons:
New system has some maturing to do.
Microsoft's new mobile OS doesn't have copy/paste
capabilities.
Second on the list of missing Windows Phone 7 features is true
multitasking.
The third debated feature oversight for Windows Phone 7 is the
lack of Adobe Flash, Silverlight, or HTML5 support in the
browser.
TOP 5 SMARTPHONES
Samsung Galaxy s3 - 36000Rs./

Apple Iphone 4s - 45,500Rs./

HTC One X - 36100Rs./

Nokia 808 Pure View - 33,899Rs./

Blackberry Bold Touch 9900 - 28,950Rs./
CONCLUSION
Android has occupied the 59% of the mobile phone
market..
And that is truth with its reasonable price and marvellous
features available its cons are negligible and can be
avoided.
