Tuberculosis (TB) remains a global health problem, especially in developing

countries. Indonesia as one of the developing countries in this regard was ranked top three
after India and China. In the development of this recent years, TB control in Indonesia is
getting better, it is seen from the Indonesian state ranking with the highest number of TB
cases dropped to fifth in the world. however, Indonesia is a high burden countries and is
being rapidly expand DOTS strategy. Lung Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease in
which personal behavior plays an important key to the outcome of the disease. The objective
of this research is to analyze and establish knowledge, attitude and behavior of the TB
patients towards the successful recovery rate at the end of 6 months Directly Observed
Therapy - Short course (DOTS) therapy. This research was conducted among TB patients
undergoing DOTS therapy at Public Health Centre of Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta. Cross-
sectional design and simple random sampling method were used in this research. 40 sputum
smear positive patients were selected randomly, who consented to participate the study. All
data were collected from questionnaire given to the patients and analyzed using the Double
Regression Test with significance level = 0,05 and p < . The study showed that 90% of the
respondents behavior towards their illness is good and only minority of the respondent
(10%) are considered as having poor behavior. Theoretically, knowledge level is significantly
affecting the attitude and behavior, therefore contributing to the recovery rate of tuberculosis.

PENDAHULUAN

1.1 LATAR BELAKANG
Tuberkulosis (TB paru) merupakan salah satu penyakit menular yang masih
menjadi masalah kesehatan masyarakat di dunia maupun di Indonesia. Penyakit ini
disebabkan oleh infeksi bakteri Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Diperkirakan sekitar
sepertiga penduduk dunia telah terinfeksi oleh kuman ini. Indonesia saat ini berada pada
ranking kelima setelah India, China, Afrika selatan, dan Nigeria dengan beban TB
tertinggi di dunia. Menurut Kementerian Kesehatan RI tahun 2011 jumlah kematian akibat
TB diperkirakan 61,000 kematian per tahunnya.
