Removing main frame
Remove the rear frame.
Remove transverse tube.
Remove left/right engine cross-member.
Remove the battery.

Remove handlebar trim on left and right and re-

move cover for fork bridge.

Drain the clutch and brake systems.

Remove windscreen, upper section of fairing and

interior trim.

Remove retaining plate (2) for plug connectors.

Remove retaining plate (1).

Remove the rear suspension strut.

Remove the reverser control unit.

Remove the battery carrier with ABS control unit.

Remove the cover for the ABS relay.

Disconnect the wiring harness from the ABS re-

lay.

Remove brake pressure lines.

Remove clutch pressure lines.

Pull clutch breather line to the rear and remove.

Disconnect plugs for the gear indicator switch,

temperature sensor at cylinder head, and side
stand switch and guide the cables down to re-
move.

Disconnect ground lead from upper cross-mem-

ber, ground leads (3, 4) from generator and start-
er motor, and positive cable (5) from generator.

Disconnect positive cable for starter motor from

terminal on rear frame and open cable ties.

Disconnect plug for on-board computer.

Disconnect plug for heated grips, if applicable.

Disconnect pressure lines from brake and clutch

handlebar fittings and pull up to remove.

Remove handlebar complete with brake and

clutch fittings.

Disconnect the steering damper from the leading

link.

Disconnect the leading link from the slider tube

bridge.

Disconnect the fixed tube from the fork bridge.

Remove forks complete with front wheel.

Disconnect plugs for Hall-effect transmitter (6),

oil pressure (8), water temperature (7) and igni-
tion lock (9) in the electronics box.

Secure fairing bracket to workshop crane,

BMW No. 46 5 640.

Remove fasteners securing fairing bracket to

frame.

Remove fasteners securing electronics box to

frame.

Remove fasteners securing wiring harness to

frame.

Remove fairing bracket complete with electron-

ics box and wiring harness and remove from
workshop crane, BMW No. 46 5 640.

Secure workshop crane, BMW No. 46 5 640, to

main frame.
