A Samaritan, though traditionally enemies with Jews, took pity on the man. He bandaged his wounds, put him on his donkey, and took him to an inn where he paid for the man's care. When Jesus later asked which person was a neighbor to the injured man, the answer was the Samaritan who showed him mercy.
