Following the adoption of resolution S-2111 on 23 July 2014, entitled "Ensuring
. respect for international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory,
including East Jerusalem", in which the Council decided to urgently dispatch
an independent, international commission of inquiry to investigate all violations
of international humanitarian law and international human rights law in the
Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, particularly in the
occupied GazaStrip, in the context of the military operations conducted since 13
June 2014, to be appointed by the President of the Human Rights Council, I
hereby have the honour to inform you that I have decided to appoint Ms Amal
Alamuddin (United Kingdom), Mr Dondon Diime (Senegal) and Mr William
Schabas (Canada/Ireland) as commissioners, Mr William Schabas will act as
the Chair of the commission of inquiry.
