RE: Float in Approved base line

Hani,
Your comment that the float in the approved Baseline Schedule belongs to the Contractor, is
generally correct.
The float was put into the Schedule by the Contractor, and the amount of it (whether a lot or a
little is a reflection of his self!determined efficiency in carrying out the wor" with what he
considers to be the most cost effective and efficient level of resources necessary. So yes, the
float belongs to the Contractor, because he is the one who says that he can e#ecute and complete
the $or"s in the accordance with the Contract Schedule and for the Contract %rice.
& Client or 'mployer may try to argue that he has bought the float in paying the Contract %rice, and
that therefore it is his to use.
The counter!argument to the 'mployer(s view, of course, is that if it was true, then the Contractor
would )ust ma"e sure that there was no float included in the first place* &fter all, it is up to the
Contractor to resource his Schedule as he considers to be in his interests, and can, if he wishes,
remove all float and ma"e everything critical*
Hope this helps,
