Manual for the OnBoard Antennas
Handling

The OnBoard antennas shall be handled careful. The antennas can have sharp corners or
edges so gloves are recommended when handling the OnBoard antennas. The antennas are
not suited for reflow soldering processes.

Antenna placement

The OnBoard antennas are designed for mounting on ground planes. The ground plane shall
exceed the antennas outer contour by at least half of the antenna height in all direction. The
placement position has great importance to the antenna radiating performance. The
performance is good if the antenna is placed near a corner of the PCB. It is often good to
have the antenna connection terminals also near the corner of the PCB. Figure 1 show good
placements positions.

Mounting process

Ensure that the PCB is clean so the adhesive can attach properly. Remove the adhesive cover
sheet and place the terminal in the appropriate plated through connection holes. Press and
hold the antenna during a few seconds. Solder the antenna terminals from opposite side of
PCB.
