The document describes two methods for attaching lines to blocks on a model ship. The first method uses an eyelet through the block to attach the line. The second method uses brass wire wrapped around the block to form a loop or hook to attach the line. An example is shown of lines attached using these methods on the foremast of a model ship named Gulnara.

This picture of the foot of Gulnara's foremast shows two line which I think are made off in the manner he was referring to:
This is the method I used; a ring or hook could be used instead of an eyelet: Home Contact Login Model Ship Builder Helping preserve the art of model ship building www.modelshipbuilder.com 8/11/2014 Forums / Anything Goes / Making off a block. - Model Ship Builder http://www.modelshipbuilder.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?16412 2/3
The other blocks on the rail were made off using brass wire. I made a noose on the end of the wire and then pulled it tight rund the block. In this case the wire tail was then wrapped round a drill bit to form an eye but it can also be bent to form a hook. (The wire is 0.3mm soft brass). 8/11/2014 Forums / Anything Goes / Making off a block. - Model Ship Builder http://www.modelshipbuilder.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?16412 3/3 Theme by Back to top Tim C Mon Mar 03 2014, 09:18AM Registered Member #4126 Joined: Thu Feb 14 2013, 09:19PM Posts: 809 That's Nice Work Later Tim Back to top
