Call Setup Time


1. The length of time required to establish a circuit-switched
connection for a call between users, i.e., the time between (a) the
instant the final digit of the call receiver number is entered by the call
originator's data terminal equipment (DTE) and (b) the instant at
which the calling signal starts at the call receiver's DTE. 2. For data
communications, the overall length of time required to establish a
circuit-switched connection between data terminal equipment (DTE),
i.e., the time between (a) the instant a call request is initiated and (b)
the instant the call message begins, i.e., the information transfer
phase begins. Note: Call setup time is the summation of (a) the call
request time, i.e., the time between the instant a calling signal is
initiated by the call originator
