WMC WOMENS PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION 2014

The Women and Media Collective (WMC) invites female photographers of Sri Lanka to partake in its
annual photography exhibition themed Working Women. This year WMC celebrates 30 years of
activism and the exhibition will showcase Working Women as part of its activities on this occasion.
WMC was formed in 1984 by a group of Sri Lankan feminists interested in exploring conceptual and
practical issues of concern to women in the country. A range of activities and exhibits illustrating
WMCs gradual progression in empowering women across Sri Lanka will be featured alongside the
photography exhibition.
Recognising that photography has been a predominantly male profession in the country, Women and
Media Collective welcomes women amateur and professional photographers to showcase their artistry
at this event. An independent panel of judges will select photographs for the exhibition and those
whose work is selected will be awarded certificates of merit.
The womens photography exhibition, under the theme of Working Women, is a unique endeavour to
Sri Lanka and will be held at the hall of the Public Library in Colombo from the 25
th
28
th
of
November 2014.
We hope that this exhibition will draw in some of the finest female photographers that Sri Lanka has to
offer. Additional information, criteria for eligibility, rules, terms and conditions are mentioned below.
We wish you all the very best and hope to hear from you soon.

Thanking you,

Dr. Sepali Kottegoda

been actively engaged in bringing about policy change and attitudinal change based on feminist
principles in creating a just society that does not discriminate based on gender.

Our work has contributed at different moments in time to social and political change, the inclusion of
women and gender concerns in the peace process, increased state recognition of womens rights, the
enactment of new legislation or legislative and policy reform promoting and protecting womens rights
such as the Domestic Violence Act of 2005, and recognition for the need to increase womens
representation in politics.

The mandate of the Women and Media Collective is to:

1. Lobby for the recognition of womens rights and concerns in legal and policy reform
