English/Social Studies Skills

Real learning involves knowing how to learn as well as what to learn. To better understand and learn
course content, I will supply you with helpful study skills that provide a variety of learning strategies.
This class will also focus on pre-teaching material to help you get ahead in class and reviewing class
material to help you get a better understanding. Writing skills will also be a major focus of this
course.

Communication between parent, student, and teacher is important! All of your teachers have been
made aware of your accommodations; please speak to your teachers about your accommodations
(Extended time, preferential seating). I will be contacting your teachers on a regular basis about your
progress, grades and homework.

Grading Policy
Students will receive a numerical grade for this course based on the following categories:
Organization of time, material and information
Work Habits: responsibility, classwork, homework
Independent Work: self direction, persistence
Teamwork: cooperation and their role in group work
Knowledge of the English and Social Studies course content

We will use http://bmchsd.edmodo.com for this course as a means of sending out materials, taking
practice quizzes and communicating. The Parent Contact Form can be found on our class website:

Extra Help hours are on Tuesday mornings from 7-7:25AM, Wednesdays from 2:20-3:15, and
5th period by appointment.
