Broadcast & Video Production

Fall 2014
Ms. Jensen
Room B643
Jennifer.jensen@coffee.k12.ga.us

Class Information
Welcome to the Broadcast & Video Production pathway at Coffee High! I am excited
that you are here. This class will be an overview of broadcast media production, from
pre-production to post-production. You will be learning about the media and how it
impacts your lives every day. You will be creating a variety of videos such as news
packages and short films.

Equipment Usage
Each student will be checked out a camera kit at the beginning of the semester. It is the
students responsibility to keep track of it. Fines will be issued at the end of the
semester for outstanding equipment. More information will be given on this.
Students will be working with very expensive equipment this semester and are expected
to handle it with respect and care. Proper instructions will be given on the correct way to
use the equipment. Any student misusing or abusing the equipment will be subject to
disciplinary action. Inform Ms. Jensen of any missing or broken equipment as soon as it
is noticed.

Extra Help
Ms. Jensen is available Monday afternoons after 3:30 if tutoring is needed. Students
needing extra help can set up an appointment in person or by emailing
jennifer.jensen@coffee.k12.ga.us

Items Needed by Students
Students will need to have the following things for use during the school year: A
notebook to keep all notes and handouts is essential for students to be successful.
These notebooks are not collected by the instructor, so choose one that you feel
comfortable using. A small pair of headphones are required to monitor audio when
working a production and shooting footage. Small ear-bud types are sufficient.

GRADING POLICY
Quizzes 30% of final grade
Tests, Projects 50% of final grade
Daily (Work Ethics, Extra Curricular Productions, ect.) 20% of final grade
Final Exam and/or End of Pathway Assessment TBD

Your Work Ethic grade consists of your attendance, classroom participation, and
adherence to the rules and policies of the program. Missing productions, skipping
class and not participating in class will cause this grade to be reduced. Students unable
to follow the rules and policies of the program will also lose points. It is up to you, as
the student, to do what is right to keep your grade to the level you would like.

Extracurricular Productions are a mandatory part of the program. We provide a service
to the school and have many taping opportunities that occur during school time as well
as after school and on the weekends. Students are expected to participate in these
productions, so they will be able to practice what they have learned and help support
the needs of Coffee High School. No student will become proficient by only attending
class for theory. Practice with the equipment is important to the training in BVP. All
students must work a minimum of three (3) events. At least one of these events must
be a supervised (instructor or producer) production.

A calendar in the classroom will list the upcoming events that will need to be recorded.
Every student will have opportunities to sign up to record the various events. In the
class, there is a Project Log that is used to keep track of your extracurricular
participation. It is up to the student to sign the sheet after they work a production. This
sheet is to be used only for extracurricular productions. The Project Log sheet is not to
be used for class projects. You are given plenty of time to complete class productions
in class. If you choose to record a class project outside of class time, this will be taken
into consideration for your project grade, but it does not count towards your
extracurricular taping time.

Class Rules & Expectations
No gum, food, or drink of any kind will be permitted in the classroom at any time
(refer to your student agenda)
Horseplay will not be tolerated
All students will be in the classroom, ready to begin class when the tardy bell
rings or they will be counted as tardy.
All rules in the student agenda will be enforced

Make-up Work
Students who miss tests or other classroom activities must arrange on their own to
make up the assignment within 3 days of returning. No make-up work will be given to a
student after these 3 days. It is the students responsibility to ask for the make-up
work.

Parent Involvement
Parents/guardians who wish to visit and check on the progress of their student are
