Councilmember David Alvarez commented on the San Diego Convention Center expansion project. He said he was pleased his council colleagues recognized that an appeal was not in the best interest of the city. This provides a new opportunity to move forward with a better project that could include a potential stadium site and allow San Diegans to provide input on the size, scope, and location of the facility. Alvarez had previously voted against approving the special taxing plan for the convention center expansion in 2012.

Alvarez Comments on San Diego Convention Center expansion
SAN DIEGO (August 26, 2014) Regarding the San Diego Convention Center expansion project, Alvarez made the following statement:
I am pleased that my Council colleagues recognized that an appeal is not in the best interest of the City. We have a new opportunity to move forward with a better project, including a potential stadium site, and engage San Diegans in a citywide dialogue about how to build the best facility possible. The people of San Diego should get a say on whether to fund a Convention Center expansion, and discuss the size, scope and location of the project that best serves the needs of our City.
Alvarez voted against the Council action approving the special taxing plan for a Convention Center expansion in 2012.
