Human life begins in the
form of a fertilized
cell in the womb
,passes through
different stages of
growth and
development. They
are:
Pre-natal period
Infancy
Early childhood
Later childhood
Adolescence
Adulthood
Old age

Pre Natal Stage
The period from the moment of conception
to the birth of child is known as Pre natal
period. It extends from conception to birth

POST NATAL LIFE
Birth is not the beginning of life. It is the
time when the individual make a transition
from the internal enviornment of mothers
uterus to the world outside mothers body.

Infancy is divided into two periods;

Period of portunate
Period of neonate
Child Physical Development

Characteristics of physical development
Physical growth is not steady and regular
Different parts of body have its own
unique way of development
Physical growth and development is
affected by climatic conditions
Hereditary fixes a limit of physical growth
and development
Physical growth is rapid in the infancy
Dimensions of Physical growth
Height :: A new born child is 19-20 inches
At the time of birth
Weight :: Human baby has a weight of 2.5-
3.5kg,at the time of birth
Body proportions :: Some organs of the body
are developed at the time of birth than others.
Internal organs ::Internal organs of the body
also develop with the age
Motor Development
Motor development includes movements of
hands, legs, mouth and other related
muscles of the body.
Characteristics of motor
development
a) Motor development occurs in those
structures which lies nearest to the main
axis.
b) Bilateral to unilateral trend in the
coordination and control of muscles is
seen
