LT stim adenylate cyclase
The LT enterotoxin is very similar to cholera toxin in both structure and mode of action.
LT (cholargen-like: cholera-like toxin): cAMP in gut mucosal cells by activating the
stimulatory Gs membrane G protein thus activating adenylate cyclase.
ST enterotoxin is not inactivated by heat because of its small molecular size.
ST: cGMP by binding to and activating guanylate cyclase located on the apical membranes
of host gut mucosal cells.
The action of both the LT and the ST enterotoxins is increased secretion of fluid and
electrolytes resulting in watery diarrhea.
