Mr Jerome Maths Homework 29.09.

2014
Halving and doubling numbers using partitioning.

Use the partitioning method I showed you this week to solve the following problems. Please
show me your working out in your book.
Here is an example: to double 236, first I partition the number into 200, 30 and 6 then double
each part = 400, 60 and 12. I then add them together to get my answer of 472.

Double:
a) 27 e) 135
b) 54 f) 364
c) 65 g) 283
d) 76 h) 549

Halve:
a) 48 e) 146
b) 64 f) 425
c) 25 g) 254
d) 63 h) 2685

**Helpful hint** When you are halving an odd number, remember to halve the even number
before it and then add 0.5.
e.g. when halving 5, you know that half of 4 is 2 so half of 5 will be 2.5
