of chronological order, or in other ways
where the narrative does not follow the direct
causality pattern of the events featured

A Rose for Emily is a nonlinear narrative
Assembling a Timeline
Today you will be breaking up the events of A
Rose for Emily and rearranging them in
chronological order.
Look carefully at how Faulkner hints at when
things happen in the story. Use those clues to
figure out what goes where on the timeline.

Timeline
Your timeline can be a
vertical list.
Use bullet points to
show that a new event
has started.
You do not need to use
complete sentences.
You can also do a
horizontal timeline, as
seen on the right.
Revision
You will need to make a rough draft.
Your final copy must be neat and legible.

Rubric
Here is your rubric. Each letter grade will be
broken up into number grades. For example,
a timeline with 16 events will be considered a
90.
A: 16-19 events
B: 12-15 events
C: 8-11 events
D: 4-7 events
F: 0-4 events
