Centrifugal Pump Notes:

Net Positive Suction Head:

The net positive suction head (NPSH) is defined as the absolute pressure
head at the inlet the pump, minus the vapour pressure head (absolute)
corresponding to the temperature of the fluid pumped, plus the velocity head at the
inlet of the pump.

In order to have a cavitation free operation of a pump, the available
NPSH should be more than required NPSH. The required NPSH varies
with the pump design, the speed of the pump and its capacity. The
required NPSH is determined experimentally by running the pump at the
designed speed with different suction lifts.
