A multimedia live literature production written and performed by Maggie Sawkins and directed by Mark C Hewitt. Join the narrator on her quest to discover the lure of psychoactive substances > Zones ofAvoidance Winner of the Ted Hughes Award for New Work in Poetry Zones of Avoidance combines moving testimony, vivid language and humour with the voices of those in recovery from addiction. Maggie Sawkins is the author of two collections of poetry and is the founder of Portsmouth poetry and music club, Tongues&Grooves. With video sequences by Abigail Norris and music by Nick Evans This narrative totally absorbed me, and its ambitious multimedia presentation worked exceptionally well. It is a challenging, painfully open account of a daughters addiction, which captures the fear of many mothers. Beautifully written and uncompromising, its a contemporary story I felt the writer was compelled to tell.
