A small coin that would replace all Chinese coins and privately minted coins that were used by the Japanese people back in that era. The 1 mon Kanei Tsuho was the lowest amount of money for a coin just like the 5 cent coin is the lowest amount of money for a coin in Australia.

The silver 1 bu coin was a lot bigger at 24 mm x 16 mm and was issued from 1837 until 1868. The smaller silver 1 shu was 14 mm x 9 mm and was issued from 1864 until 1865.
The Hansatsu Note was a long narrow and weak piece of paper that was almost exactly like our Australian 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100-dollar notes. Most of these notes were approximately 120 mm long and 40 mm wide. Each of the clans of shogunate japan had there own set of notes with there clan symbol on it. The Bu & Shu Coins
