The department offers courses in all major areas of experimental psychology,
with emphasis in the areas of behavior analysis, neuroscience and behavior,
clinical psychology, cognitive psychology and cognitive neuropsychology,
developmental psychology, sensation and perception, and social psychology. The
department emphasizes research in the experimental and theoretical analysis of
human and animal behavior, and the study of the mind. Students who major in
psychology can expect to develop a knowledge of a broad range of content areas,
as well as basic skills in experimental and analytic procedures.

Special Advising Note:

Transfer students are strongly advised to complete as many preparatory courses
as soon as possible for their major before enrolling at UC San Diego. Preparing
well for the major helps students move efficiently toward graduation.

(1) Three lower division natural science courses are required from the
following approved UCSD courses (the three courses can be distributed in any
manner). Courses that have not been articulated must be approved via petition
on an individual basis by the Psychology department. Those transferable
courses which are very similar to UCSD's will be accepted, as well as most
other courses and at an equivalent academic level ONLY for the Psychology
major.
