School! We spent time getting to know each other, and the routines and expectations of the class. Thank you to all who sent little notes to us this week. The feedback was extremely positive-for which we are grateful! It is nice to hear what the children share with you at the end of the day! In Language: We begin with Nursery Rhymes to explore rhyming. We discuss rhyming words as those that sound the same at the end of the word. So far, we have learned: 1,2 Buckle My Shoe, Itsy Bitsy Spider and Humpty Dumpty. We began, with the Second Years, assessing letter recognition for upper case and lower case letters and letter sounds. We were impressed at what they remembered! Gym: We will hopefully begin our formal Gym program next week. For now, we got into the routine of lining up to go in and out for recess. In Religion: We explicitly practiced The Sign of the Cross and learned some engaging prayers. Science: We learned that a humid lunch hour outside on the yard makes for a LONG afternoon!!!! In Fine Motor Development: Mrs. Hennessey began her work with select children to increase fine motor strength and dexterity as well as gross motor strength. In Art: We finished off the week with a collaborative art project. Using a big piece of paper and paint, all the children worked together to create a new masterpiece! It was a great way to build up our classroom community!
In Music, Drama and Dance: We ended most days in celebration with a rockin Dance Party! In Mathematics: We used color recognition to practice using the SmartBoard and to take turns. We began assessing colors, number recognition, and rote counting.
In Personal and Social Development: We worked on listening to the teacher, raising our hand, waiting our turn and not shouting out, using walking feet in the class and hallways, using nice words, using manners ( to make Mommys and Daddys heart swell with pride! ) and playing nicely. In Inquiry/Directed Play: We worked on not dumping bins of toys, not taking a toy out of a friends hand, keeping our hands off, etiquette involved in lining up, and putting our toys away before we take out any more. We also worked on the concept of working together as a team during clean-up time.
