What does AVID stand for? AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. What i s AVID? It is an elective class students take during the school day that focuses on building up the writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading skills students will need to be successful at any college or career. What ki nd of student i s the AVID Program good for? AVID is for all students, but has been found to be most successful with students between a 2.0-3.5 GPA and a desire to succeed. What do students i n the AVID class do? Students work on their writing; they participate in tutorials and classroom discussions. Students learn career skills, work on being more organized, and develop the motivation needed to pursue college or a good career through field trips, guest speakers, and much more! How does my student enroll i n AVID? Student must complete a short application and write a short essay. After that, there is an interview that takes place with our AVID Site Team.
