News 12 New Jersey seeks the best and brightest seniors from New Jersey high schools
for its SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK. News 12 New Jersey is currently
accepting nomination applications from high school athletic directors and/or coaches,
detailing the accomplishments of their nominees.
To be eligible, nominees must be in their senior year of high school, have outstanding
academic performance, participate and have attained achievements in school sports and be
involved in other extra-curricular activities.
The ports !epartment will select "# applications. $ach week throughout the school
year, a different student will be recogni%ed, and appear on-air for his/her successes both on
and off the playing field. The competition gets tougher every year&
'n (ay or June of )#*+, News 12 New Jersey and NJEA will conclude the program with
a luncheon for all the nominated cholar ,thletes, their parents and a school
representative. , spokesperson from the News *) New Jersey ports Team and an NJ$,
official will present a commemorative award to all the cholar ,thletes. There will be five
finalists selected out of the "# nominees, but only one will be chosen as the -cholar
,thlete of the .ear/. The winner and finalists will receive a share of a scholarship pool
funded by the NJ$, and News *) New Jersey.
