You are advised to spend 30 minutes writing an essay on your chosen topic in this booklet.
Using ONE of the six topics below, write about ONE extended written text that you have
studied in class.
You may write about:
EITHER:
novel
OR non-ction
OR hyperction
OR drama script
At the beginning of your answer on page 3:
circle the text type
write the title of the text
name the author
write the topic number
Choose ONE topic. Make sure you understand both parts of the topic before you start writing.
Write an essay of AT LEAST 200 words for your answer.
Make sure you ANSWER BOTH PARTS of the topic. Make sure your chosen topic suits the
text.
Support your points with specic details from the text.
TOPICS (choose ONE):
1. Describe ONE important choice made by a character or individual in the text.
Explain why this choice helped you understand the character or individual.
2. Describe ONE important incident at the end of the text.
Explain how this incident helped you understand an important idea in the text.
3. Describe at least ONE important technique in the text that you thought was very
effective.
Explain why you thought this technique was very effective.
Note: Technique might be imagery, symbolism, dialogue, vocabulary, style, point of
view, or structure.
4. Describe ONE important relationship in the text.
Explain how this relationship helped you understand a character or idea.
5. Describe an important setting in the text.
Explain how this setting helped you learn about another place or time.
6. Describe at least ONE effective use of language in the text.
Explain how the writers effective use of language helped you understand an important
emotion.
