Welcome to 9
th
Grade Biology!
This year we will be learning biology, or the study of life. I am hoping that
this course will leave you with an understanding of, and appreciation for,
the amazing ways life on Earth takes place. Additionally, our in-class
learning will be supplemented by hands-on experiments that will allow us
to think critically and scientifically about biology. I look forward to
learning, discovering, and having fun together as we explore various topics
in biology!

Textbook: Biology by Miller and Levine (Dragonfly book)

Class Website: www.mrsbochnersbio.weebly.com
I will be posting slides and review sheets on the website, as well as
supplementary articles and videos.

Schedule:

Supplies: 2 binder (or bigger), pens/pencils, highlighters. Supplies have
to be brought to each class, and there will be a binder/notes check every
week.

Most importantly, bring your focus, curiosity, and positive attitude!

Grading: Over the course of the year, there will be unit tests, as well as
performance based assessments that will require writing and research.
Quizzes and homework will be given throughout the course of each quarter.

Day Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
Period 4 4 4 4 and 8 4
Time 11:14-11:54 11:14-11:54 11:14-11:54 11:02-11:38

Grades will be determined based on your performance on tests and
assignments (50%), quizzes and homework (20%), labs (15%) and
class participation (15%).

Missed Work: Absent students are responsible for all missed work and
assignments. To make up work, students can check with their classmates,
look at the class website, or email me.

Late work: Homework and assignments must be handed in the day they
are due, and tests must be taken the day they are scheduled. If any
extenuating circumstances arise, contact me (in person or through email)
before class.

Things You Should Know:

Class begins when the bell rings. If you come in late, even if I have
not gotten to your name yet, you will be marked late.

Cellphones are not welcome in our classroom. To make sure we

really understand what we are learning, we need to minimize
distractions.

No eating is allowed in class.

Our class can only function well if we help each other learn. As a
result, disrespectful or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

If you dont understand something, or something is not clear, please

let me know as soon as possible. Chances are, many others have the
same issue, and it is my responsibility to make sure that what we
learn is as clear and understandable as it can possibly be.
