Sixth Grade Newsletter

Unit 1, Week 3 September 9, 2014

As Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Alhamdulilllah, the sixth graders are settling in to their new routine in middle school. We would like to begin by introducing the
theme for the year: Empowering Change: Reflect, Act, and Transform. Throughout the year, the students will be working on
strengthening their Eman, improving their relationships with others, and InshaAllah will aim to attain Ihsan by being responsible
citizens. The focus in this Spiritual Literacy unit will be unity, wholeness and systems. Students will approach their routines and
studies in a systematic fashion.
In the next two weeks, the students will be studying the following:
In order to attain the level of Ihsan, InshaAllah, students began the year with exploration of Allahs Names and
Attributes. They will attempt to know Him through His signs and creations in all areas of study. Students will be guided
to the realization that Allahs Names and Attributes help us understand Allahs Wholeness and Omnipotence.
We will be reading the novel Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt. Students will study the themes of everlasting life,
family, friendship, and the wisdom behind the systems of life and death. Some literary devices that will be explored are:
foreshadowing, symbolism, imagery, similes, and metaphors. Students will also be dissecting a whole sentence into its
parts.
Alhamdulillah, we are excited to announce that we have new math and science textbooks in the middle school. This
week, your child will come home with a letter explaining how to log into the Pearson Successnet portal that allows
access to the digital version of the textbooks. Please take some time to explore the site with your child because there
are many extra resources that come along with the book.
The CAI policy for group projects is that students are not allowed to meet outside of school to work on them. Any group
that needs more time can arrange with ALL of the group members to meet at the after school Study Center from 4:00-
5:00, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
Homestudy is written daily in the planner and checked by the homeroom teacher at dismissal time. Please make sure
you are checking them at home on a nightly basis.
If students need to search anything online, they should not take more than half an hour. However, students are
required to type major papers and assignments for which they may need more time than that. Please monitor your
childs computer usage closely.
Please make sure to send healthy finger food for snack that can be finished in 3-5 minutes.
Monday and Wednesday are gym days for boys whereas girls gym days are Tuesday and Thursday. Students are
expected to be in their proper gym uniform and gym shoes on these days.

Thank you for your time. If you need to contact us for any concern or comment, please feel free to send us an email
through our weebly class pages.

Wassalaam,

Sixth grade homeroom teachers
