This document proposes an attendance monitoring system using RFID technology to more efficiently track student attendance. An RFID reader attached to the classroom entrance will scan student ID cards as they enter. The reader will send student ID numbers via Bluetooth to a lecturer's smartphone app. The app will connect to the RFID reader, allow the lecturer to log in and monitor attendance. Attendance data will then sync from the app via WiFi to a central server database. A website will also be developed for viewing class attendance records, updating attendance statuses, and generating potential and confirmed barring lists for truant students. This system aims to make the attendance tracking process less time-consuming and more secure than traditional paper-based methods.

MANAGEMENT SUMMARY Students irregular attendance is of concern to the teaching faculty. Truancy can affect a students overall academic performance. Taking attendance by roll call or signing on paper is very time consuming and insecure. Therefore, a computer-based student attendance monitoring system is required to assist the lecturer for this time- consuming process, and to avoid truancy. Our project aims to develop Attendance Monitoring System Using Radio-frequency identification (RFID) Technology which could effectively monitor attendance of the students at Multimedia University. Attendance is marked after student identification. For student identification, an RFID reader will be attached to the wall at the entrance of the class room and it will scan the student ID card. When the student ID is placed into the RFID reader, it scans and sends the unique card numbers to the lecturers smartphone via Bluetooth. An Android mobile application is developed and installed in the lecturers smartphone. This application will establish a Bluetooth connection with the RFID reader and the lecture logs into the system to monitor the students attendance. The application then will synchronize the data with the main servers database via Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) connection. A website is developed to view the students attendance for a specific class, to update the attendance for any student who did not attend the class with valid reason, and to get the potential barring list and the confirmed barring list.
