Homework:

I am trying to limit the amount of homework that the children have. If you
notice your child bringing home an exceptionally large amount of work
they were either absent or did not work diligently in class and had to take
their class work home.
One thing that I do not want to cut back on is the amount of reading time
that the student is to do each night. Please encourage your child to read
a minimum of 20 minutes each night. If this time needs to be broken into
10 minute increments initially, that is fine, but work on increasing that time
each week so that the child is eventually able to read for 20 minutes
without losing his or her focus. Building their reading stamina is crucial to
their reading success.
Finally, check that your child is actually reading! Have them actually read
out loud a paragraph or two and ask them to explain to you what they
read. It is one thing to read it. Adding the discussion component will
increase their understanding immensely.
