PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT POLICY Powell's Mission is to embrace the gifts and talents of each child in order to inspire lifelong learners. To achieve this goal, a strong partnership between parents and the school is essential. In order to support this partnership, we will adhere to the following Parent Involvement Policy: 1. Convene an annual public meeting The annual public meeting will take place at the Open House held during the beginning of the school year. During the annual meeting, we will provide an overview of the Title I plan, provide an update on the schools Annual Measurable Objectives (AMO). 2. Offer a flexible number of meetings There will be planned workshops scheduled at various times throughout the year during Read And Feed, and Literacy Night. These meetings will include parent activities and materials for helping children develop literacy skills. 3. Provide a process for parent input in planning and reviewing of programs and policies Parents of students at Powell Elementary School are invited to participate in the planning, review and improvements of the school-wide program and parental involvement policies. Parents will be elected to serve as members of the school leadership team. A parent survey will be sent home in the spring and feedback from this survey will be used to make improvements to our instructional program. 4. Providing Timely Information The school will provide parents with timely information regarding programs, curriculum, instructional goals, and assessments through quarterly updates and will communicate other school related information through newsletters, conferences, report cards, websites and interims. The school will publish a yearly calendar on the school website and notify parents of changes and upcoming events through the weekly school messenger system calls. Teachers will hold a minimum of two individual parent conferences during the year. Additional conferences will be held as needed and as requested by parents. The school phone number will be available on the letterhead of all school correspondence. Parents will be encouraged to attend all events and workshops at Powell and in the community. 5. folders. The school will utilize Common Core Curriculum and use state, local and teacher created assessments. Students will be identified for remedial services based on the following protocol: mClass Universal Screening-All students scoring at the Intensive (Red) or Strategic (Yellow) level based on the triangulation of multiple data points (progress monitoring, formative, common, summative, digging deeper, etc.) using the Team Initiated Problem Solving (TIPS) model will be considered for academic intervention. Teachers will determine and implement evidence-based interventions that strategically target the needs of the students in addition to high quality core instruction During the Best Services Meeting, the team members will also identify the grade levels that have the largest concentration of high-needs students. The grade levels with the largest concentration of high-needs students will receive the largest percentage of intervention services. Grade levels with a lower concentration of high-needs students will receive a smaller percentage of intervention services. Again, it is important to note that the intervention services will follow the needs of the students, so the concentration of intervention services at any particular grade level will change from year to year.
6. Provide opportunities for parents to participate
The school will provide parents the opportunity to participate in the education of their children by creating an open and inviting environment. In compliance with Wake County policy, parents are encouraged to volunteer in the classrooms and in PTA activities. Based on parent survey results the school will schedule meetings at flexible times. As much as possible, performances and information sessions will be scheduled for the same evening in order to increase attendance. The schools website will have a link that leads parents to information on volunteering at the school, including specific opportunities.
7. Developing School-Parent Compacts
All students and families enrolled at Powell will receive a Compact that outlines how parents, students, staff, and administration will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the States high standards.
