During the Week
In this entertaining speaking activity, students make positive and negative present simple
sentences about their routine activities during the week.

Before class, make one copy of the chart, verbs cards and activity cards for each group of
three students. Cut the verb cards and activity cards as indicated and keep the two sets
separate.

Procedure

Divide the class into groups of three.

Give each group a copy of the chart. Tell the class some things you do or dont do during the
week, e.g. I watch TV on Wednesday evening. I dont do any exercise on Monday morning.

Now tell the students that they are going to talk about things they do and dont do during the
week using a set of cards to help them.

Give each group a set of verb cards. Ask them to shuffle the cards and to put them face
down in random order on the chart.

When they have done that, give each group a set of activity cards. Ask the students to
shuffle them and to take an equal number of cards each.

Students then take it in turns to turn up any verb card on the chart and match the verb with
one of the activities on their cards and make a true sentence about what they do or dont do
at that time on that day.

For example, a student turns up the verb go on the square representing Wednesday
morning, matches it with the word cycling and says: I dont go cycling on Wednesday
morning.

If the group agrees that the sentence is correct, the student puts their activity card on top of
the verb and the next student repeats the activity.

If a student cannot match one of their activities with the verb on the chart, they miss a turn.

Tell the students that the aim of the activity is to put down all their cards and the first student
to do so is the winner.
