Characteristics of Latin Dance
Latin dance is a type of ballroom dance or folk dance that originally dance from latin
America, Cuba, and Puerto Rico and include Salsa, Mambo, and Argentine Tango which have a
specific characteristic for each of them. First is salsa dance, as a dancer they shift their weight by
stepping, the upper body remains level and nearly unaffected by the weight changes. Weight
shifts cause the hips to move. Arm and shoulder movements are also incorporated. Every salsa
music composition involves complex Afro-Cuban percussion based around the clave rhythm.
Second is mambo dance, the dance contains no breaking steps or basic steps at all. Music
composition for mambo dance based on jazz and tap steps.

Third is argentine dance, dancers
generally keep their feet close to the floor as they walk, the ankles and knees brushing as one leg
passes the other. A large amount of tango music has been composed by a variety of different
orchestras over the last century. Latin dance has been favorite people to show in any ballroom
event beside the different characteristics for each of them.
