Nursing Process Theory

Nursing is a profession that seeks


to find out and meet the patients
immediate need for help.
Categorized records (nurse & patient) as
GOOD or BAD nursing.
Formulated a deliberative nursing process.
Nursing Process is an interaction of three
basic elements:
1) The behavior of the patient
2) The reaction of the nurse
3) The nursing actions which are designed for
the patients benefit.
To find out & meet the patients
immediate need for help. = patients
presenting behavior
To use perception, thoughts about the
perception or the feeling endangered
from their thoughts.
To explore with patients the meaning of
their behavior.

THE NURSING PROCESS
NURSES RESPONSIBILITY
Composed of whatever help the patient
may require for his needs to be met

Nurse may either give this need for help
DIRECTLY or INDIRECTLY.
Is a requirement of the patient which
relieves or diminishes his immediate
distressor if this is supplied.

This improves his immediate sense of
adequacy or wellbeing.
Presenting behavior of patient
Is any observable verbal & non-verbal
behavior of the patient.

Are Nurses & Patients individual
perceptions, thoughts and feelings
Includes: Nurses communication (own
immediate reaction) to the patient.
It clearly identifies the item expressed

Made in order to ask for validation, clarification
or correction from the patient.

Once referred as DELIBERATIVE NURSING
PROCESS
Increases the therapeutic effectiveness of
nurses through;
empathy,warmth & genuineness
Premise: Immediacy of patients help.
Relevant in Special areas: OR, ER & CCU.
Requires nurses to be meticulous & critical to
patients behavior as this is a sign of
communication of patients needs for help.
