Pre-requisites: part of a number, fraction of a number, common factor
Teaching-learning resource: activity cards, computer slides, chart

Classroom Interaction Procedure Pupil Responses
Preparation:
For checking the pre-requisites of pupils, teacher asking some questions;
What is ratio?
Did you know about fraction of ratios?
To remembering these, teacher shows some slides

Ratios
Compare two measurements in terms of
natural numbers, by choosing an
appropriate unit. If we know the ratio of two
numbers, then we can find each number
from the sum of numbers.

After that the teacher asking to the pupil,
Do you know about the simple ratio?
How can we simplify ratio?
Lets see it.

Development:
The teacher divides pupils into four groups, then teacher giving activity cards
with questions. Then giving instruction to the groups, about the question.

Ratio of Fractions
A ratio can be used to compare parts of a single
thing. For finding the ratio of two fractions, we can
multiply them with appropriate natural numbers.

Activity Card
Draw a circle and it divide into four equal parts, then shade one of
them,
1. How many divisions are occurred?
2. How many parts are shaded?
3. How many parts are un shaded?
4. What is the ratio of shaded part to the un shaded part?
5. What is the fraction of this ratio?
6. What is the simple ratio?
Activity Card
Draw a circle and it divide into eight equal parts, then shade two of
them,
1. How many divisions are occurred?
2. How many parts are shaded?
3. How many parts are un shaded?
4. What is the ratio of shaded part to the un shaded part?
5. What is the fraction of this ratio?
6. What is the simple ratio?

Activity Card
Draw a circle and it divide into twelve equal parts, then shade
three of them,
1. How many divisions are occurred?
2. How many parts are shaded?
3. How many parts are un shaded?
4. What is the ratio of shaded part to the un shaded part?
5. What is the fraction of this ratio?
6. What is the simple ratio?

Activity Card
Draw a circle and it divide into sixteen equal parts, then shade four
of them,
1. How many divisions are occurred?
2. How many parts are shaded?
3. How many parts are un shaded?
4. What is the ratio of shaded part to the un shaded part?
5. What is the fraction of this ratio?
6. What is the simple ratio?

Pupils are doing activity through group work and they get answers. After this
process the teacher paste a chart containing table on the wall and saying
pupils to write the answers on chart. Then analyse it for convenience.

From this, they can conclude that if a, b are two numbers and m is a constant,
then ma: mb = a: b.
After this the teacher showing the slide of simple ratio.

Simple Ratio
a, b two numbers and m is a constant number
then,
ma: mb = a: b

Review: What is the simple ratio of xa: xb, here a, b two numbers and x is a constant number?
Follow-up activity:
1. Find the simple ratio?
i) 18:81
ii) 24:64
Pupils reading the slide and understand the concept

Application:
Teacher giving questions for check them.
1. Finding the simple ratio of 24:60?

Teacher is saying pupil to read the question, how can we find it.
How can we write 24: 60 in fraction?
24/60
For finding the ratio of fraction, we can multiply them with appropriate natural
numbers.
Then,
24/60= 212/512
How can we write this in the form of ratio?
212:512
Here 2 and 5 are two numbers and 12 is a constant number. Then,
212:512 = 2:5
Pupils are finding the answer.
