Vote. You are eligible for ACP if: You reasonably fear you are in danger of physical harm or threats of violence by another person, or You or your children have been victims of abuse crimes, or You or your children have protection orders against an abuser. Those who are eligible may apply, guided by application assistants, to the Secretary of States Office to have a placeholder address assigned to them.
Participants will use the placeholder address in place of their real address on paperwork with government entities, schools, employers, etc. Its like having a post office box address. Kathleen Clyde rep95@ohiohouse.gov 614/466.2004 ADDR E S S CONFIDENTIALITY PROGRAM State Senator Nina Turner turner@ohiosenate.gov 614/466.4583 Overwhelming Support 37 states have already created an Address Confidentiality Program. When introduced in the 128th General Assembly, the bill passed the Ohio House unanimously. Participants will receive their mail at the Secretary of States office, which will forward it to participants at their preferred address.
The ACP allows victims to continue to engage in the full rights and responsibilities of citizenship, including voting while shielding their location information from their abuser. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence notes that more than 1 million women and 370,000 men are stalked each year in the U.S. In other states, the ACP has been successful in shielding victims address and contact information.
