USES OF FORMATION TESTING

by Temitayo Ologun
To determine if reservoir will flow
Permeability estimate
Formation pressure and temperature
Fluid gradients and type
Some idea of skin
Design mud gradients
Fluid sample for PVT analysis

Skin can be positive or negative, and it refers to the region around the well bore
Ideally its believed that from the wellbore to the Re is homogeneous
Positive skin is impairment while negative skin is improvement. *
When the pad is pressed against the well bore, a drawdown is stimulated. The Ptool is assumed to
be the Pformation. Flow continues until the pre-test chamber is filled. At the time, the pressure is
equivalent to the pressure of the formation.
The GR tool is used as a depth calibration tool to set the formation test in the zone that is to be
tested. There are two types of pressure gauges:
Quartz gauge
Sensor gauge
