Students
are
divided
into
two
groups,
African
Kingdoms
(4)
and
the
European

Empire
(1).

Students
in
each
African
Kingdom
partake
in
a
traditional
economy,
with
a
role

that
they
have
to
continue
each
generation.

Students
in
the
European
Empire
engage
in

slave
trading
(taking
students
from
African
Kingdoms)
and
two
components
of
colonialism,

raw
material
trading
(taking
the
colored
pencils
of
the
African
Kingdoms)
and
missionary

work
(giving
African
Kingdoms
orange
and
purple
colored
pencils.




African
Kingdoms

approaches
you
to
trade
you
for
a
pencil
or
ruler,
or
takes

your
pencil
or
ruler,
or
takes

you
must
go
with
them
or
give
them
what
they
need.


European
Empire

Material
Trader

Your
role
is
to
go
to
different
African
Kingdoms
and
gather
colored
pencils
and
rulers

for
your
European
Empire.

You
can
take
whatever
colors
you
need,
but
you
cannot
take

more
than
two
from
any
one
Kingdom.

Slave
Trader

Your
role
is
to
go
to
different
African
Kingdoms
and
gather
people
to
help
your
Empire

complete
their
colored
picture.

You
can
take
a
person
in
whatever
role
you
need,
but

you
cannot
take
more
than
two
people
from
any
one
Kingdom.

Missionary

Your
role
is
to
spread
the
purple
and
orange
pencils
to
all
of
the
African
Kingdoms.

The

people
in
the
Kingdoms
are
desperate
for
purple
and
pink
colored
pencils,
but
they

can’t
trade
for
them
between
themselves!

You
can
trade
your
purple
and
orange

pencils
for
whatever
color
they’re
using,
but
you
can
only
trade
with
two
people
from

any
one
tribe.

You
must
also
return
any
pencils
you
get
your
teacher.
