The unprecedented floods and landslides in Jammu & Kashmir
have caused extensive damage to property and have taken a heavy
toll of lives. This has also caused untold suffering to the people of
the State and tourists visiting Jammu & Kashmir.

The Government of India declared the flood situation in
Jammu & Kashmir as a National-level disaster. The Army has
evacuated more than 15,000 people from inundated areas across
the State.

On behalf of the State Government and people of Tamil Nadu,
I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family members of all
those who have lost their lives in the colossal tragedy. The State of
Jammu & Kashmir is faced with the arduous task of ensuring
immediate rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures for the flood
ravaged areas and reconstruction of the devastated areas in the
coming days. As a token of the support and solidarity of the
Government and people of Tamil Nadu with the Government and
people of Jammu & Kashmir in their hour of need, I have ordered
the immediate contribution of a sum of Rs. 5 crores from the Chief
Ministers Public Relief Fund to the Government of Jammu &
Kashmir.
