On November 4, 2008 Senator Barack Obama of Illinois beat Senator John

McCain of Arizona to become the 44

th
president of the United States of America, and
the first African American elected to the White House. More than 69.4 million
Americans cast their vote for Obama, while some 59.9 million voters chose McCain.
President was inaugurated on January 20, 2009. On November 6, 2012, he defeated
Republican challenger Mitt Romney to win a second term in the White House.
This event in history is important to me because it made me realize that
change can happen and as Americans, we can make a difference. It also shows that
doors can open and opportunity is available to anyone. I cannot wait until a woman
is in the White House as our first female president. I hope I am alive to see the day.
