Subject: Shaheen lead over Brown steady at 6 points after primary

Date: September 22nd, 2014

Public Policy Pollings newest survey of the New Hampshire Senate race finds that Scott
Brown has not received any bump after his victory in the Republican primary two weeks
ago, and that Jeanne Shaheen remains at 50%.
Key findings from the survey include:
-Shaheen leads Brown 50/44, the exact same numbers PPP found when it polled the race
in late August. Shaheen is winning independents 49/43 and also has her party more
unified around her, getting 82% of Democrats to Browns 76% of Republicans. Shaheen
is ahead with both women (51/43) and men (50/45), and also leads among voters within
every age group.
-Brown remains quite unpopular with only 43% of voters rating him favorably to 53%
who have an unfavorable view. Those numbers have actually gotten slightly worse since
before the primary when he stood at 42/49. Brown is in especially poor standing with
independent voters, only 40% of whom rate him positively to 55% with a negative
opinion. Shaheen meanwhile remains popular with a 50/44 favorability rating that
matches the numbers in her head to head with Brown.
-Democrats also have the clear advantage in the race for Governor. Maggie Hassan leads
Republican challenger Walt Havenstein 52/43. She is up 51/43 with independents and is
also receiving a larger than normal 23% level of support across party lines from GOP
voters.
PPP interviewed 652 likely voters on September 18th and 19th. The margin of error for
the poll is +/-3.8%. This survey was conducted on behalf of the League of Conservation
Voters.
