At a Snails Pace

It seems as if math is crawling at a snails pace this year. We are
working with the Illinois State Board of Education and using their
Livebinder program. The problem is, the program was not fully
developed so we are putting the program together as we go. A bit
frustrating, but we are getting along slowly. We are beginning to work
with multiplication processes this week. Many, but not all, of the
students did fairly well with the first lesson multiplying 2 x 1 problems such
as 28 x 4. You will notice I said many, but not all. There were a few tears
of frustration. Please work with your child using the traditional method
of multiplication. I have a youtube video linked on my website, along
with a link to a worksheet that goes with the video. It is under chapter 5
in the Math section of the web page. It is a great resource to help
reteach what they were taught in class. Once the students are
comfortable with the traditional method, we will then demonstrate the
partial products method. There is a video on the same web page
covering that method. Feel free to contact me if you have questions.
