Measurement System Analysis(MSA)
2
A Measurement system analysis is an experimental and
mathematical model of determining how much the variation within
the measurement process contributes to overall process variability
Accuracy vs Precision
3
Accuracy is defined as the closeness of agreement between an
observed value and an accepted reference value or standard.
Precision is defined as the closeness of agreement between
randomly selected individual measurements or results.
A measurement system may be precise but not accurate.
Accuracy vs Precision
4
Instrument A =0.248 in
Instrument B = 0.259 in
Standard value =0.25 in
A is more accurate than B
Example
Instrument A =
(0.248, 0.246, 0.251)
Instrument B =
(0.259,0.258,0.259)
B is more precise than A
Accuracy vs Precision
5
Repeatability vs Reproducibility
6
Repeatability or equipment variation is the variation observed when
the same operator measures the same part repeatedly with same
device.
Reproducibility, or operator variation, is the variation observed
when different operators measure the same parts using the same
device.
