Gas Turbine Life Extension
Course Highlights
Reasons for forming an independent perspective on gas turbine component
durability
Assessing the condition of hot section components and discs is their condition
such that their life be usefully and safely extended?
Case studies for blades and turbine discs
Repair techniques to restore condition and/or improve durability
Design type modifications to improve life: The role of OEM and non-OEM suppliers
About Your Workshop Leader
Mike Wood
Senior Consultant,
ERA Technology, UK
Dr. Mike Wood leads the Gas Turbine area at ERA Technology. In the 24 years that he has worked
there, he has been actively involved in a wide range of investigations concerning gas turbine
integrity, repair, non OEM components, life extension, associated operational problems, failure
investigations and Expert witness work in arbitration/litigation cases. During this time he has
worked on very wide range of sizes, ages and makes of industrial and power generation gas
turbines. This work has been carried out mostly for gas turbine operators and the insurance
companies. In conjunction with these activities, he has also initiated and lead programs to
develop improved techniques to assess the serviceability of service run hot section components.
These projects have been supported by both operators and original equipment manufacturers
from around the world.

One of the challenges of gas turbine upgrades is validation of new control logic codes.
An improperly designed system poses a risk of production loss and in worst case can
lead to catastrophic failures.
Workshop Agenda
Risk mitigation by ensuring gas turbine protections work properly under all
operating scenarios
Testing of gas turbines under abnormal conditions without putting the machine
in to dangerous operating conditions
Implementing control schemes that are not documented properly but only the
senior operating and maintenance personnel are aware of the hidden control
schemes
Smoothly transferring the knowledge of senior retiring personnel to new recruits
Experts from the 8th Annual Gas Turbines Speaker Panel will host a table
exclusively for a limited number of participants. Network with these top
decision-makers and use the opportunity to get those burning questions
answered! Attendance will be limited and on first-come-first-served basis.
