Apple fractions is a simple fractions book, where they will take one apple and dissect it into multiple fractions. The book also looks at different types of apples to get a little bit of science and plant information in the book. The book will also do some simple fraction addition such as + . I like this book because it is extremely simple and very concrete even when dealing with concepts as abstract as fractions. The book is also very applicable and classroom friendly. (P) Each Peach Pear Plum: By Allan Ahlberg
Each Peach Pear Plum is a compilation of different popular characters to make a nursery rhyme story. There is an I Spy for an object or person on each page all the way up to the end of the story, where all the characters have a picnic together. I liked this book because it offered kids an opportunity to explore many different literature references along with getting a fun activity from the I Spy portion. (P) E-mergency!: By Tom Lichtenheld
In the book, the letter E, takes a bad fall down some stairs. The letter E was seriously injured and had to go to the hospital. Since E is hurt someone has to fill in for it, so the letter o is chosen. Many words are misspelled and it leads to total chaos for all the people and letters because words do not make sense anymore. I liked this book because it made learning letters fun and funny. The book also did a good job of using letters whose sound also makes a word, like the letter r saying are you ok? (P) Shiver Me Letters: A Pirate ABC: By June Sobel
The Alligator captain gets his band of animal pirates together to go a hunt for all of the letters of the alphabet. The pirates explore all of the oceans and lands to find an island where they find all of the letters except for z. When the crew returns to the captain instead of being accepted and celebrated they are punished and pushed over board for missing z, so they go back to the island and never find it. Luckily the crew finds the letter z as they snore at night saying Zzzzz. I liked this book because it made reading and letters appear to be more than just reading and finding letters, it is an adventure and can take the reader to many interesting places.
