MODULE 1
SCANNING FOR SPECIFIC INFORMATION
- Read the question first, before you read the text
- Move your eyes over the text seeking specific information
you need, like numbers (1,2,3), words and phrases
- When scanning, look for letters or step (like : first, second,
next)
- Look for words that are bold faced, italics, or in a different
font size, style, or color
- Read fast with scanning pattern :
- The Z sweep
- The S sweep

MODULE 2
READING FOR THE GIST
Preview the text by looking
at headings, subheading,
pictures, etc
Then read the selection
carefully
Highlight the who, what,
when, where, why and how
o the text
Write a 20 word gist
summary using the
information you have
highlighted

MODULE 3
READING FOR DETAILED INFORMATION
Read the detail information of the text carefully
Confirm whether the information is present on the text or
not
Concentrate on the specific word
Do not spend too much time on reading the whole text

MODULE 4
SKIMMING
Find main idea of each paragraph
Figure out the suitable title for the text
Determine content of the text based on title, first
paragraph and the last paragraph

Skimming works well to find dates, names, and places. It
also might be used to review graphs, tables, and charts.


EXERCISE
Lets go back to module 1 until module 4, to remind you what
have we done in our lovely Reading 2 classes so do exercise
from the very beginning module. Lets started!
OBJECTIVE
After this module, You are required to be able to:
1.Point out specific information from a text;
2.Mention specific information from a text;
3.Guessing the text content with identifying verbal and
nonverbal marker.

PREVIEWING
Still, the Hamburger Rule.
Top, this is where your topic sentence located.
Middle, to make things tastier, writer usually put details to
support the topic they are about to tell.
Bottom, holding everything together is the conclusion.
And, watch for unusual text or marking
Capitals
Bold, italic, underline
In the end, ask yourself 5W1H

Identify the paragraph main idea
Read very carefully
Figure out what is the texts main idea

Do the Activity 1 in page 5.4 also for Formative Test 1 in
page 5.10
